When Volt Heated Clothing set out to design the most reliable heated garments on the market, we had one priority: consistent, dependable heat that lasts for years, not just a single season. That mission led us to develop and patent our own heating system using microscopic stainless steel fibers woven directly into each garment.
Today, this technology powers our entire range of gear, including our heated gloves, heated jackets, heated vests, and heated boots. But why stainless steel, and why did we invent our own system when carbon fiber heating elements are everywhere? Simple: because your comfort, safety, and long-term satisfaction matter more than cutting manufacturing costs.
Our patented Zero Layer® Heating System utilizes stainless steel fiber elements strategically placed throughout each garment and powered by rechargeable lithium batteries. The moment you turn them on, they deliver instant, soothing heat.
Unlike other systems, our stainless steel technology continues delivering the same level of heat from the first use to the very last. Consistency is the cornerstone of comfort. That is exactly where stainless steel succeeds, and carbon fiber fails.
While stainless steel costs more than carbon fiber, it provides two major advantages for making a truly reliable product, like the best heated jacket or pair of heated gloves.
Microscopic stainless steel fibers can bend, twist, flex, and stretch without breaking. This is a crucial characteristic when you are wearing heated gloves, heated jackets, heated boots, or heated vests that constantly move with you.
Carbon fiber is brittle when used as a heating element. Each time carbon fiber heats up, it breaks down a little more. That means over time, you see lower heat output, uneven performance, and premature failure. Carbon fiber simply does not survive real-world use in garments that need to flex constantly.
Stainless steel allows us to control heat output with exceptional precision. This means every product delivers the same temperature performance. You will experience no "hot spots", no drop in heat levels over time, and no early burnout of heating elements. This level of consistency is simply not possible with carbon fiber.

You will find carbon fiber heating elements all over the marketplace for one reason: they are cheap to make. But cheap does not always mean effective, especially not for heated clothing that needs to perform in harsh, cold environments day after day.
Carbon fiber heats quickly, and that is where the benefits end. Its tendency to break down when heated means you will never get the same heat level twice. Over time, the wires weaken, the heat fades, and eventually the system fails altogether.
We are not the only ones who discovered the shortcomings of carbon fiber heating elements.
The Auto Industry: Early heated car seats used carbon fiber elements. Manufacturers quickly discovered the same issues we did: inconsistent heat between seats, rapid breakdown of fibers, and frequent failures. Automotive companies eventually switched to stainless steel heating elements for reliability. If carbon fiber could not survive in a rigid seat, how could it possibly survive inside a garment that moves constantly?
The U.S. Military: During our work with the U.S. military to develop gear that keeps service members warm in extreme conditions, they reached the same conclusion. Carbon fiber is not reliable enough for heated clothing or heated gloves. Its degradation and brittleness made it unsuitable for long-term, mission-critical use.
When you choose Volt Heat, you are choosing garments powered by a patented stainless steel heating technology, not generic carbon fiber.
Our Zero Layer® Heating System is engineered to:
Deliver instant, efficient heat.
Maintain consistent temperature output from day one to year ten.
Survive bending, flexing, and movement.
Withstand real-world use in harsh environments.
Last significantly longer than carbon fiber alternatives.
You deserve heat you can count on, whether you are wearing heated gloves on a cold morning or using boot warmers on the slopes. Choose a system that was intentionally engineered for durability and consistent performance. Choose Volt Heated Clothing. Choose Zero Layer®.

The main advantage of Volt's patented Zero Layer® Heating System is its superior durability and long-term consistency, achieved by using microscopic stainless steel fibers instead of carbon fiber. This technology is engineered to survive constant bending, flexing, and movement without the heating elements breaking down. This means it maintains a consistent temperature output from the first use to the last, lasting significantly longer than carbon-fiber alternatives.
Stainless steel is a better material for heated clothing because its microscopic fibers can bend, twist, and stretch without breaking. In contrast, carbon fiber, while often used because it is cheap, is actually brittle as a heating element and breaks down each time it is heated and flexed. This breakdown leads to lower heat output and eventual system failure in carbon fiber garments.
Yes, carbon fiber heated gloves and heated jackets tend to fail or degrade over time because the carbon fiber material is brittle and breaks down when subjected to heat and movement. This degradation causes the heat to fade, the wires to weaken, and the system to become unreliable, losing its ability to deliver the same heat level twice.
Both the U.S. Military and the Auto Industry found carbon fiber heating elements to be unreliable for long-term use. The automotive industry eventually switched from carbon fiber to stainless steel elements in car seats due to frequent failures. The U.S. Military also concluded that carbon fiber's brittleness and degradation made it unsuitable for mission-critical heated garments.
Yes, the Zero Layer® Heating System is engineered with exceptional precision control that eliminates "hot spots". The use of stainless steel ensures that every product delivers consistent temperature performance and maintains a smooth, consistent heat throughout the garment, unlike carbon fiber elements that degrade over time.

Conventional gloves are passive insulators. They work by trapping the heat your body generates, but they cannot generate heat on their own. This specialized technology is distinct from tools like heat resistant kitchen gloves; these are not about protection from high, immediate heat, but rather generating and sustaining thermal output.

The autumn air is sharp, the turf is often damp, and the bleachers are freezing. For parents, fall sports are a test of thermal endurance. Your young athlete is running, generating constant heat, and staying perfectly warm. You, the stationary spectator, are fighting a losing battle against the cold—your body is not producing enough heat, and your traditional layers are failing you.
It started with a challenge to our company founder to find a solution for his mother who suffered from cold feet, even while indoors in a heated home.
